Description

George the Cat, residing at Stourbridge Junction in the West Midlands, has gained significant popularity, leading to his own marker on Google Maps and a line of merchandise.

George first appeared at the station in 2017 after his owner moved to Spain, and the station staff subsequently adopted him. Now 10 years old, he has become a social media sensation, attracting fans worldwide, including in the United States, Canada, and Asia.

George's official role at the station is Senior Mouse Catcher, but he also spreads positivity through uplifting social media posts. George donates a portion of the profits from his merchandise to local charities and often shares treats with less fortunate cats.

His popularity has also helped the station win awards, such as the World Cup of Stations in 2021, and he has received a nomination for the BBC Radio WM's Make a Difference Award.

The BBC will reveal the winners at a ceremony on September 9, 2024, at the Birmingham Hippodrome. George the Cat, a Stourbridge Junction train station resident, has been shortlisted for this award due to his significant impact on spreading positivity and supporting local charities through his social media presence and merchandise sales.
